The picture-perfect town of

HONFLEUR

About 200km away from the dazzling lights of Paris lies a modest little town in the Normandy region known as Honfleur

This beautiful little town happens to be the subject of several much-loved 19th century paintings by the maestro, Claude Monet. Not much has changed since the 1800s. Honfleur continues to be as stunning as a freshly-painted masterpiece, and Scenic gives you the opportunity to step into the idealist realms of a Monet painting, with handcrafted itineraries to northern France.

The leisurely pace of Honfleur gives you ample time to appreciate its spectacular harbour that is easily one of the prettiest in all of France. The beautiful ‘Vieux Bassin’ port dates back to the 17th century, and the colourful fishing boats and historic buildings lining the waterfront provide the perfect setting for the countless amateur artists lined up on the banks.

Honfleur’s highlight is the 15th century St. Catherine’s church. An architectural wonder, this is the largest church in France, made entirely from timber and vaguely resembling an overturned boat due to being constructed by shipbuilders. Must-see sights to experience in your spare time in Honfleur include the Eugene Boudin Museum, named after the town’s renowned painter and showcasing works by Monet, Courbet, Boudin and Freisz. Also make time to visit the Maisons Saite Museum - a tribute to the town’s other illustrious resident, the composer and pianist Erik Satie. The museum’s unique scenographic and musical trail experience is not to be missed.

Unlike other cruise ships, Scenic Gem

has been specially designed to sail the

Seine, from Paris right into the port of

Honfleur. Others must dock up river

and transport their passengers to the

city by coach.

Discover Honfleur and the Normandy

region on our Highlights of

Normandy & the Seine and Normandy

& Gems of the Seine itineraries.

Honfleur’s strategic location, as a gateway from the Seine to the English Channel, has helped the town play a pivotal role in shaping France’s history during the Hundred Years War. A short distance from Honfleur, you’ll find the iconic Normandy beaches of the D-Day landings. A visit to the beaches, the Normandy American Cemetery and the Landing Museum at Arromanches will transport you back to the time of the Battle of Normandy, where over 100 thousand allied soldiers successfully liberated Western Europe from the clutches of the Nazis.

Picturesque Honfleur is filled with charming attractions. There’s the Pont de Normandie (Normandy Bridge) which is an engineering marvel of its time, and the scores of half-timber houses transporting you back to the Middle-Ages. Honfleur is shrouded in stunning natural beauty and serves as the perfect spot to commence a journey discovering Normandy and northern France. On your voyage, explore the incredible limestone cliffs of the Alabaster Coast that plunge into the depths of the English Channel, and absorb the art and history of the fishing port of Fécamp.
